Text Box: The Virginia District began in 1937 when the Pilot Club of Bristol was chartered.   Our district has grown into 13 clubs with over 330 members.  Virginia has been the home District of three past International Presidents.  In addition, the artist P. Buckley Moss is an honorary member.
From the beginning, Virginia District Clubs have participated in a large variety of community service projects.  Virginia Pilots are strong supporters of Pilot International’s BrainMinders™ program.  BrainMinders™ , the signature project for Pilot International, was introduced at the International Convention in Denver, in July 2001.  The award-winning program features safety tips for children and is presented by Pilot Clubs around the world. 500,000 books are in circulation.
The Pilot Club of Chesapeake within the Virginia District was the first Pilot Club to bring Project Lifesaver to the attention of Pilot International.  From this first introduction and support from Pilot Clubs across the nation, Project Lifesaver has expanded nationally and internationally with a 100% success recovery rate.  In 2006, Pilot International and Project Lifesaver officially joined as partners.  The Pilot International flag flies at Project Lifesaver headquarters located in Chesapeake, VA.
Since Pilot International was chartered in 1921, Pilot Clubs have undertaken service projects involving young people and their needs. In 1952, Pilot adopted the program of sponsoring Anchor Clubs. Anchor is now 50 years old and is made up of over 10,000 members.  The Virginia District Clubs sponsor eight Anchor Clubs.
If you want to give back to your community, make lifelong friends, and participate in an international service organization, please contact the nearest Pilot Club.
